Services

24/7 WebMed

This free, online program has been developed to provide direct, interactive medical advice to students. You simply enter your symptom(s) and the 24/7 WebMed responds by asking a series of questions. At the conclusion of this process, the user is provided with a possible diagnosis and advice regarding when and how to seek care (i.e. self medicate, seek treatment by a doctor, or seek immediate emergency treatment).

This service offers around-the-clock medical advice, health and wellness education and is secure and confidential.

24/7 WebMed can be accessed through your MyUCF Portal. Once logged in, select “Health,” then “24/7 WebMed.”

Allergy Clinic

This service is available for students who have already begun taking allergy immunotherapy. Students must have received their first round of shots by their allergist before they can start receiving injections at our clinic.

Remember: The clinic does not perform the initial allergy testing, nor does it administer the first round of injections; there is a fee per visit, regardless of the number of shots being administered; you need to request and have your allergist complete an Allergy Packet prior to your first appointment with the Allergy Clinic; and, you will be required to wait 30 minutes after receiving your injections to make sure there are no adverse reactions.

Clinical Dietitian

Our Clinical Dietitian (located in the Health Center) is available to students who have obtained a referral from their health care provider or a certified Health Advocate or Dietitian at the Wellness Center. If a student obtains this referral, they may then schedule a one-on-one consultation with the Clinical Dietitian, who can help them with: weight management, eating disorders and body dismorphia, anemia and diabetes, and digestive disorders. There is a small fee per visit.

The Wellness Center has a Registered and Licensed Dietitian available on a walk-in basis to students who need less in-depth counseling.

Flu Clinic

Each fall, UCF Health Services offers students, faculty and staff flu shots at a very affordable rate. Visit this website or call the Health Center for information in early October.

Health Insurance

The University of Central Florida is proud to endorse the UCF Student Health Insurance Plan, administered by The Chickering Group, an Aetna Company. All students, taking at least 6 credit hours, are able to enroll in the plan upon entry to UCF, at the beginning of each fall semester or when experiencing a “qualifying life event” (i.e. being dropped from a parent’s coverage).

The plan offers worldwide coverage at an extremely affordable rate, and complements the Health Fee that students are already paying to use the Health Center. Visit www.chickering.com for more information.

Remember: The enrollment deadline for the 2007-2008 policy year (August 15, 2007 – August 14, 2008) is September 30, 2007.

Laboratory Tests

Students have the convenience of having their laboratory tests performed here at the Health Center. Most laboratory tests have a 20-minute turnaround time, so students rarely have to come back or wait for a phone call to get their results.

Remember: There are small fees associated with laboratory testing.

Medical Records

Health Information Management is responsible for storing and administering all requests concerning patient medical records. You may request a copy of your records be sent the a 3rd party for medical treatment, or request a copy for yourself for personal use. For more information on this process, please select “Medical Records” on the menu bar.

Patient Advocate

UCF Health Services strives to provide compassionate, accessible, affordable care to all patients. There is a Patient Advocate available to students and/or parents with concerns about their care. All concerns remain confidential and anonymous, unless you request otherwise.

Call 407.823.2701 and request to speak with the Patient Advocate.

Primary Care

Students receive unlimited visits with our family practitioners with no office charge – a.k.a. FREE! Our providers include: Board Certified Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses.

Remember: While there is never an office charge to see a doctor, there are nominal charges for procedures (i.e. suturing), laboratory tests, x-rays and medications.

Psychiatry

A Psychiatrist is available to students on a limited basis for short-term individual counseling, crisis intervention, medication evaluation and monitoring, and referrals to off-campus resources, if necessary.

Travel Clinic

Available for students traveling or studying abroad, our Travel Clinic will provide you with the latest information from the Center of Disease Control (imbed link www.cdc.gov). The Travel Clinic Counselor will provide you with counseling on: tips for a safe and healthy trip; recommended and required vaccinations; risks associated with diseases and epidemics; food, water and health precautions; and what to include in a travel kit.

Remember: Schedule your appointment 6 – 8 weeks prior to your departure.

Women's Clinic

Devoted to providing a warm and sensitive environment, the Women’s Clinic provides a patient-oriented approach to comprehensive gynecological care. There is no charge for an office visit or examination, but certain procedures and laboratory tests (i.e. pap smear), do require relatively small fees.

The Women's Clinic provides a wide array of services, including: routine gynecologic exams, contraceptive counseling, testing for sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy testing and counseling, lifestyle education and counseling, and management of certain gynecologic conditions.

X-Ray

Students have the convenience of having their x-rays taken here at the Health Center. Because we use the latest all-digital technology, most x-rays have an initial-read 20-minute turnaround time, so students rarely have to come back or wait for a phone call to be diagnosed. All x-rays are sent to a consultant radiologist for confirmation of diagnoses.

Remember: There are small fees associated with x-rays.

Vaccinations

All UCF students are required to show proof of immunizations against Measles, Mumps and Rubella before enrolling in or attending classes. UCF Health Services is able to administer these vaccinations if they are needed. In addition, we offer many more vaccinations you may be interested in, including vaccinations against: Hepatitis A&B, Meningitis (highly recommended for students living on campus), Tetanus, the Flu and Human Papillomavirus (HPV). Many additional vaccinations are available.

Remember: Vaccinations are not included in your health fee, and you will be assessed a charge, which varies by vaccination.

Victim Services

Victim Advocates offer crisis intervention, emotional support, and practical assistance. All services are free and confidential to all members of the UCF community who may be victims or survivors of crime, violence, or abuse, on or off the UCF campus. Information you share will remain between you and your Advocate, unless we have knowledge of suicidal/homicidal ideations, or knowledge of child/elder abuse.
