Peer Educator!

The Campus Wellness Center encourages students to make low risk and responsible decisions about college health and wellness issues through interactive educational programs that promote a lifetime of positive personal choices. Students with a special interest in health and wellness may apply for positions as Peer Educators and work in a number of capacities including outreach programming on topics like nutrition, fitness, body image, stress management techniques, and ways to keep sex safer, and conducting the CHAMP (Comprehensive Health Assessment and Motivation Program) for individual peers or groups, and/or conducting HIV testing and counseling.

We are looking for students who:

Have completed or will become enrolled in either HSC 3110 or HLP 2701 and

  • Have completed 15 credits at UCF and have attained at least sophomore status by Fall 2008
  • Have a 2.5 cumulative average
  • Have completed a CHAMP themselves (or will be signing up soon!)
  • Are willing to apply for work study if qualified (not a requirement)
  • Are available to take part in summer training on Fridays during summer A -- 10am to 5pm, and 24 hours of observation of Senior/Grad Educators. You may earn 3 credit hours of Independent Study or you may audit this training course. This is where you will learn job-specific skills.
  • View this as an opportunity to develop leadership and job skills in a relaxed but professional work setting
  • Are willing to make a full year commitment and make this one of their top priorities
  • Are good role models (within reason) for healthy lifestyles
  • Have flexibility to work some evenings and weekends when needed
  • Possess many of the following qualities deemed important to the success of
  • Peer Educators:  * initiative * sensitivity * non-judgmental attitude * dependability * motivation * desire to help others * ability to work independently and in groups * ability to maintain confidentiality of all those who receive any Wellness Center service
 
     1.  Complete an application at the Wellness Center.
     2. Schedule an interview.
     3. Turn in two reference forms (at least one should be     from a professor, employment supervisor or advisor).
     4.  Do the CHAMP!
