Shape U

Objective

The Shape U program is designed to provide a comprehensive, interactive and motivational five-week program for UCF students. It combines lifestyle, nutrition and self-awareness, with the goal of healthy weight maintenance.

The program is taught and administered by Meghan Murphy Van Camp, RD, LDN.

Tools

Shape U provides you with everything you need to attain and maintain your healthy lifestyle. Tools include the Health Habits for Life book, access to the America on the Move (AOM) website, weekly email checkups and correspondence with Meghan, daily food logs, a pedometer and recreation classes at the Rec Center. Additionally, you receive a one-on-on consultation with the Dietitian.

Cost

Shape U is one of the very few programs through UCF Health Services that have a cost. This is because of the high quality of tools and instruction you receive in the program. Shape U members are the only members that have access to one-on-one consultation with Dietitian. The program is extremely affordable and a great value!

New members: $22

Returning members: $10

Payment can be made at the UCF Health Center by using check, cash, credit card or UCF Card. The balance can also be put on your student account for up to 14 days.

Program Structure

Orientation

You begin Shape U by attending the Orientation Class<link to Events Page>. At Orientation you will begin covering the Healthy Habits for Life book, which includes emotional and nutritional components of a healthy lifestyle. You will also receive a pedometer (measures the number of steps you take throughout the day) and instructions on how to enroll in America on the Move.

Individual Consultation

After orientation you will schedule your initial individual appointment with Meghan. During your individual appointment with Meghan, you will discuss your current food choices, expectations and other associated issues.

Meghan will also meet with you at the end of your program to celebrate progress, update goals and discuss continuation of the program.

Weekly Correspondence

Every week you will email your food log to Meghan for review, along with your daily step-equivalent activities (this is where AOM comes in). Meghan will respond to you with feedback on your nutrient intake, and as your AOM team leader, your physical-activity progress.

Meghan will also address the issues and tips from Healthy Habits in these weekly emails, and answer any questions or comments you have.

Aerobic Classes

Two different aerobic classes will be highlighted each week through email. You have the option to meet with the instructors 5-10 minutes before class for a short lesson on what you can expect.
